This is a known bug in GStreamer:

http://flavio.tordini.org/forums/topic/gstreamer-bug-affecting-ubuntu-12-04-and-other-recent-linux-distributions

Forcefully removing gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad works as well. I tried with the
VLC phonon backend and that one seems to work fine. In 1.8-1, which I will
upload soon, minitube will no longer directly depend on gstreamer. So the
user is able to choose which phonon backend he wants.

I've seen this as well and it seems to be related to the aforementioned
issue.

To sum it up:

1.8-1 should work fine using the GStreamer backend when
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad is NOT installed or the workaround mentioned on
Flavios page is applied. 1.8-1 also works fine when using the VLC backend.
