On ia64 gzip -9n tends to generate compressed files that are not byte-identical to files generated on other architectures.

For example, on my i386 machine:

$ zcat testcase.gz | gzip -9n | md5sum
0e508f76b324a228594b2214589a24d0  -

But on merulo.d.o, I get this instead:

$ zcat testcase.gz | gzip -9n | md5sum
9c8c2b70e1094193e6eb70feb5db9a5d  -
