It made it's way to the upstream linux-firmware git repo, so Debian can
pull it from there. The summary is that Atheros chips are designed to
picid during the initialization process. We had one very specific chip
that was not changing ID's. The firmware update caused this chip to
change ID's with only minimal changes to the driver.
