i intend to adopt Byzanz and want to become the new maintainer. I guess the reply is far to late but nevertheless here are my thoughts on this bug report. Byzanz is implemented as a GNOME applet which actually means the only way to make it visible is to add the applet to the GNOME panel. I've described this procedure in the latest (still unreleased) version in README.Debian. At the moment byzanz isn't a graphical standalone application which you can launch from any kind of menu and where a .desktop file would be really useful indeed. I don't think this behaviour will change in the near future. Byzanz is an applet and a command line tool and the author of byzanz intends to keep it that simple. If this situation changed in the future i would add a .desktop file but for the moment i think this isn't necessary. Hence i set the severity of this bug to wishlist. Regards Markus Koschany
