I also can't reproduce this on any of my machines (i386 and amd64). If you (Julius, or anybody else) can get it to fail, it might help to include some more information (e.g. gdb backtrace, strace log, etc). One thing you could try is removing your ~/.nut-nutrition directory and starting it up again. Perhaps there is an issue loading up an old version of the database? (This is just a guess: I have never seen this behavior myself.) It would be nice if you/someone could reproduce this using plain wheezy or unstable.
