I think the root cause is http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/CORE-3447 Perhaps you can try a backport of firebird2.5 from wheezy? Or rebuild the squeeze version with the upstream patch (http://firebird.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/firebird/firebird/branches/B2_5_Release/src/jrd/unicode_util.cpp?pathrev=52787&view=diff&r1=52787&r2=52786&diff_format=h)
