Thank you for the report! It appears that the upstream tarball of the Debian package is a snapshot of the darcs repository shortly before the release of version 1.2. There is no difference in the code itself. I (or upstream) must have fucked up something... I'll ask the release team whether the upstream tarball itself can be updated at this stage...
