Oh, this reminds me.

Could you try booting an affected kernel (e.g. the 3.2.y one) with
kernel commandline arguments "single sysrq_always_enabled", and hit
alt+sysrq+h to confirm magic sysrq is working and alt+sysrq+w to list
hung tasks?

That would tell us something about the nature of the hang.
