Something I forgot to mention when answering this bug report: once wheezy is released, my intent is to upload the latest 3.6.x release in wheezy-backports so that users who want to keep the combination of "stable Debian and latest stable samba" have a solution. That is very likely to address concerns such as yours. In the meantime, the solution of using experimental's samba on a wheezy machine is a good compromise.
