Upstream has now fixed this bug more or less with this patch: https://github.com/puppetlabs/facter/commit/cf43fc0
If virt-what is installed, then at least facter will now correctly detect it is running in a virtual machine. virt-what is an optional dependency: if it's not installed, facter might still give the wrong value.
