Rolling back to the previous working courier-tls (0.47-9) fixed the problem, for the timebeing: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/c/courier/courier-ssl_0.47-9_i386.deb I'm surprised the update made its way to testing, with 3 reports of (what turn out to be) the same bug reported.
