Package: qemu-kvm Version: 1.1.2+dfsg-6 Severity: normal With one debian wheezy kvm guest (running under libvirt) configured for 4 vcpu's on a 4-core host, the idle load of the system is 1.5-2.9 and top reports the kvm process using 120-140% while the guest is 80-90% idle and 1-4% stolen cpu.
For a single guest that's basically idling (gkrellm and xfce panel monitors all that's doing anything) that's rather a lot of host load and cpu. Also the system is sluggish and slow to respond. iowait is down below 1% and no great gobs of disk are happening. I'm no expert but to me it seems like there is something wrong with picture, and it's making my plan of multiple vm's unworkable (when there's actual load in the vm's the host load goes to 16-25, cpu is near 100% on all four cores, and response time is slow). Is this a known issue or do you need more details? If so let me know what info you would like (I don't think a dump of *everything* makes sense). Oh, FYI there is no tablet driver being used because I had read that it caused high cpu, so I tried without, but it didn't actually make a difference. Also in this case the high cpu is on host not the vm. This hasn't helped me find the time to do more debugging on the issues I found with the XP guest. Need more hours in a day, but I it's still on the todo list.... -- Package-specific info: /proc/cpuinfo: processor : 0 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 16 model : 4 model name : AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor stepping : 3 microcode : 0x10000c8 cpu MHz : 1800.000 cache size : 512 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 0 cpu cores : 4 apicid : 0 initial apicid : 0 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 5 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt pdpe1gb rdtscp lm 3dnowext 3dnow constant_tsc rep_good nopl nonstop_tsc extd_apicid pni monitor cx16 popcnt lahf_lm cmp_legacy svm extapic cr8_legacy abm sse4a misalignsse 3dnowprefetch osvw ibs skinit wdt hw_pstate npt lbrv svm_lock nrip_save bogomips : 6031.49 TLB size : 1024 4K pages clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 48 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: ts ttp tm stc 100mhzsteps hwpstate processor : 1 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 16 model : 4 model name : AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor stepping : 3 microcode : 0x10000c8 cpu MHz : 800.000 cache size : 512 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 1 cpu cores : 4 apicid : 1 initial apicid : 1 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 5 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt pdpe1gb rdtscp lm 3dnowext 3dnow constant_tsc rep_good nopl nonstop_tsc extd_apicid pni monitor cx16 popcnt lahf_lm cmp_legacy svm extapic cr8_legacy abm sse4a misalignsse 3dnowprefetch osvw ibs skinit wdt hw_pstate npt lbrv svm_lock nrip_save bogomips : 6030.48 TLB size : 1024 4K pages clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 48 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: ts ttp tm stc 100mhzsteps hwpstate processor : 2 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 16 model : 4 model name : AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor stepping : 3 microcode : 0x10000c8 cpu MHz : 800.000 cache size : 512 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 2 cpu cores : 4 apicid : 2 initial apicid : 2 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 5 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt pdpe1gb rdtscp lm 3dnowext 3dnow constant_tsc rep_good nopl nonstop_tsc extd_apicid pni monitor cx16 popcnt lahf_lm cmp_legacy svm extapic cr8_legacy abm sse4a misalignsse 3dnowprefetch osvw ibs skinit wdt hw_pstate npt lbrv svm_lock nrip_save bogomips : 6030.51 TLB size : 1024 4K pages clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 48 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: ts ttp tm stc 100mhzsteps hwpstate processor : 3 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 16 model : 4 model name : AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor stepping : 3 microcode : 0x10000c8 cpu MHz : 800.000 cache size : 512 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 3 cpu cores : 4 apicid : 3 initial apicid : 3 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 5 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt pdpe1gb rdtscp lm 3dnowext 3dnow constant_tsc rep_good nopl nonstop_tsc extd_apicid pni monitor cx16 popcnt lahf_lm cmp_legacy svm extapic cr8_legacy abm sse4a misalignsse 3dnowprefetch osvw ibs skinit wdt hw_pstate npt lbrv svm_lock nrip_save bogomips : 6030.52 TLB size : 1024 4K pages clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 48 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: ts ttp tm stc 100mhzsteps hwpstate -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages qemu-kvm depends on: ii adduser 3.113+nmu3 ii ipxe-qemu 1.0.0+git-20120202.f6840ba-3 ii libaio1 0.3.109-3 ii libasound2 1.0.25-4 ii libbluetooth3 4.99-2 ii libbrlapi0.5 4.4-8 ii libc6 2.13-38 ii libcurl3-gnutls 7.26.0-1+wheezy1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.33.12+really2.32.4-5 ii libgnutls26 2.12.20-4 ii libiscsi1 1.4.0-3 ii libjpeg8 8d-1 ii libncurses5 5.9-10 ii libpng12-0 1.2.49-1 ii libpulse0 2.0-6 ii libsasl2-2 2.1.25.dfsg1-6 ii libsdl1.2debian 1.2.15-5 ii libspice-server1 0.11.0-1 ii libtinfo5 5.9-10 ii libusbredirparser0 0.4.3-2 ii libuuid1 2.20.1-5.3 ii libvdeplug2 2.3.2-4 ii libx11-6 2:1.5.0-1 ii python 2.7.3-4 ii qemu-keymaps 1.1.2+dfsg-6a ii qemu-utils 1.4.0+dfsg-1exp ii seabios 1.7.0-1 ii vgabios 0.7a-3 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.7.dfsg-13 Versions of packages qemu-kvm recommends: ii bridge-utils 1.5-6 ii iproute 20120521-3+b3 Versions of packages qemu-kvm suggests: ii debootstrap 1.0.44 ii samba 2:3.6.6-5 ii vde2 2.3.2-4 -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
