I too have been suffering with the exact same bug on Wheezy and it constantly
freezes gnome-shell 3.4 and freezes various games that use OpenGL. I have,
however, found a workaround by installing the 32-bit version
libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386. I'm not sure why the 32-bit one is working and the 64
bit one isn't.
