retitle 706190 Rework packaging to remove deprecated python-support severity 706190 normal tags 706190 + patch thanks
The problem proved to be a different daemon module installed under /usr/local. Apparently, it interfered with installation of python-daemon under /usr/lib. FWIW, in the course of working this I reworked the packaging according to http://wiki.debian.org/Python/Packaging. The module went ahead and loaded with this change. Debdiff attached.
