Marking this against the upstream bug entry. I'm not completely certain whether the Debian crypt() implementation supports SHA or Blowfish, upstream debugging was done against OpenBSD which have a few strange extensions there. Also the original reporter indicates a hashed credentials tag $apr1$ for SHA hashed passwords, which does not match the officially documented SHA prefix for any of the documented crypt() implementations. So even the current upstream support with crypt() implementation baking may still not work on the reporters credentials.
