Hi, the ckermit package in Debian (which doesn't use openssl) hasn't
been updated in ages.
To use C-Kermit in Debian with openssl support I have been using the
C-Kermit source from ftp://ftp.columbia.edu/kermit/test/tar.
If you look in recent discussion in the newsgroup
comp.protocols.kermit.misc with the subject:
"c-kermit +ssl compile fails with syntax error before numeric constant"
you will see that C-Kermit compiled with the openssl makefile option
will fail on openssl 0.9.8 (confirmed by C-Kermit co-author Jeffrey Altman).
In any case, I believe the openssl097-dev package should remain in
Debian until all packages and programs that require it are available
with openssl 0.9.8 support.

Hi, I had tried compiling C-Kermit with openssl 0.9.8 using
-DOPENSSL_097 and received compilation failures.
Can you please give more details about what is failing? Some
error messages?
PS: Is there a package for this in Debian? It might be easier to
look at it.
