Hi Thomas, In general I totally agree with you. "Standard" written French is very similar in most French-speaking countries and it makes perfect sense to agree to a common translation. In the case of dopewars, large portions (for example the preferences and the command-line help) are standard and could be part of a general "fr" translation. However, I felt that for some other user-facing portions of the game, it would be more appropriate, given the spirit of the game and the original English version, to use slang terms rather than a bland "reference French" version. Also, in this case, I also took the liberty to change the game locations to be country-specific and not based on New-York City. I therefore chose to make it a fr_CA translation since it is would not be understable or enjoyable in other countries. I would be more than happy if someone provided an equivalent fr_XX version for their country. In that case, it would certainly be useful to have lots of common elements between the two translations (i.e. the strings which aren't street slang). > I have also checked the upstream version, which does not contain this > translation. Can you please send it to the upstream author? (this is > part of the Social Contract) I have sent it to the upstream developer but only after the last release, so that's why it's not yet part of an official release.
