I think that should rather go to debian-devel, where developers could
comment on whether they think this will cause any problems...

I've had a short glance at the different parallel versions of the well
known compressors (pixz, pigz and for bzip2 also pbzip2)... I remember
that at least some of them showed already in the manpage that they're
not fully compatible (in the sense of program interface) with their
non-parallel counterparts.

Sure... I'd also prefer it they were dropped in favour of zutils by
their respective upstreams.
