It seems to build fine when I use a local disk:

   dpkg-deb --build debian/crash ..
dpkg-deb: building package `crash' in `../crash_7.0.1-2_amd64.deb'.
 dpkg-genchanges -b >../crash_7.0.1-2_amd64.changes
dpkg-genchanges: binary-only upload - not including any source code
 dpkg-source --after-build crash-7.0.1
dpkg-buildpackage: binary only upload (no source included)

Hmm, was it nfs4?
