freshly installed vanilla sid system + up-to-date ejabberd package 2.1.10-5 suffers from the bug described here: https://support.process-one.net/browse/EJAB-1526 in case links are discouraged, the description is this: After upgrading to 2.1.10 ejabberd server becomes to return broken JPEG photo by mod_vcard_ldap. In ejabberd 2.1.9 everything is ok. The effect of this bug is that when you enable the mod_vcard_ldap module something about the jpeg code in the module pegs the cpu at 100% or ejabberd fails to start/re-start entirely. The detailed issue and fix is described more entirely in the link above. This is a basic bug with the module mod_vcard_ldap. Disabling this mod will prevent this bug. However, this bug has also been fixed ever since version 2.1.11 of the upstream package according to devs and the current stable is 2.1.13. The simple fix for this would be to get an updated package built for debian repository. I truly appreciated that the maintaniner has taken the time to package this up for debain, please consider upgrading it to a new upstream version sometime if possible.
