Are you sure you are using lpr and not CUPS? Do you have cups-bsd installed perhaps? system-config-printer - System-config-printer is a GUI written to configure a CUPS server. You also have not specified *why* no one can print. Does the printer server stop accepting requests? Does the printer server stop broadcasting your printer? Is it on? If it is on, do you see it? Does the printer server see the printer (use `lsusb` when it "doesn't work", assuming it is USB printer) "It does not work" is clearly false as I have cups installed and it never stopped working.
