Package: bash
Version: 3.0-17
Severity: normal

Hi,

I tried to debootsrap hurd-i386 again today, and noticed it hangs on
bash. This was due to the login package (this is being addressed)
failing earlier at the 'Unpacking required packages' stage, resulting in
debootstrap unpacking all packages again. At this time bash was
unpackaged already, but never configured, so /etc/shells did not exist.
When unpacked again, dpkg apparently noticed a prior bash package was
unpacked and postrm was called, remove-shell did not find /etc/shells
and exited with a failure, resulting debootstrap to fail.

IMHO this does not look hurd-i386 specific, but it certainly seems to be
a rare corner-case (if my analysis is not wrong anyway), so not sure
whether this warrants action, but I thought I'd report it nevertheless.

cheers,

Michael
