In case it isn't clear, this happens because the prerm script tests for
the existence of /usr/sbin/update-alternatives before removing the
x-window-manager alternative, and that test fails because there is no
/usr/sbin/update-alternatives anymore since dpkg 1.17.0.

The preinst has a similar problem, but it is only relevant for upgrades
from pre-lenny versions, so the update-alternative calls could probably
be removed entirely from it.
