Just for the record, what desktop environment are you using? It looks like this starts happening right after the fix for the white fonts on a white background on DE's other than Gnome3. I remember that something about how liferea's window panes were initialized was changed to fix that other bug and I think that change may have also caused this bug. I'm going to try packaging 1.10.3 to see if it's fixed there, and if not, I'll report this bug upstream.
