In this context I'm not sure how applicable it is; but there are many x86 platforms where the bootloader doesn't have particularly impressive I/O performance, and having to load a large initramfs before booting the kernel has a major impact on boot speed. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world.
