Thanks for the report and the patch. We've been having the same problem with most of the SDL packages for new arches like arm64 and this one, at least the ones coming from core SDL and not extra modules. Do you think that there's a more fundamental way to fix this, like asking upstream about modifying autogen.sh with more sensible/useful/convenient commands; which would allow us to go without this kind of patches and less lines in debian/rules? At least since I am involved in the maintenance of SDL packages, about a year or two, they are quite amenable to incorporating fixes from us, specially because they are quite involved with deb packaging (they are hired by the company doing Steam OS, and I think that libSDL is an important aspect of Steam).
