Hi All,

Here is the status of the dependencies listed in README for Gramps
4.0.2 (Python 2) in Debian.

Depends:
Python 2.7 or greater - No need to list because it comes for free.
GTK 3.0 or greater - gir1.2-gtk-3.0 - seems to work.
pygobject 3.3.2 or greater - python-gi - seems to work.
cairo, pango, pangocairo - python-gi-cairo - seems to work.
librsvg2 - librsvg2-2 - nothing seems wrong.
xdg-utils - xdg-utils - nothing seems wrong.

Recommends:
osmgpsmap - gir1.2-osmgpsmap-1.0 - This is only in experimental, but
seems to work (as long as you install libosmgpsmap-1.0-dev to get the
library as well as the gir package). Can only depend on it once it
lands in unstable.
GraphViz - graphviz - Not tested, but no change from Gramps 3.4.6 release.
PyICU - python-pyicu - Not sure how to test this, but at least
recognised by gramps -v and no change from Gramps 3.4.6.

Suggests:
gtkspell - gir1.2-gtkspell3-3.0 - Works for me.
rcs - rcs - Works for me.
PIL - python-pil - Seems to work, although README description of
functionality may not be spot on.
GExiv2 - gir1.2-gexiv2-0.4 - Recognised by gramps -v, reporting
version 0.4 even though the version is 0.7. Not sure where GExiv is
actually used, but trying to add the Image-Metadata gramplet causes a
crash.
ttf-freefont - fonts-freefont-ttf - I have moved away from the
previous transitional package as recommended. Not sure how to test this.
gir-webkit - gir1.2-webkit-3.0 - This crashes for me. Will need to
patch so that gecko is used instead (as recommended in the README).
goocanvas2 - There is no goocanvas 2 in Debian yet. Have raised a bug.
Users can try installing the one from Ubuntu (gir1.2-goocanvas-2.0-9)
if desperate.

As you can see, we are still missing one "recommends" although it can
be installed from experimental for testing, and there are problems
with 3 of the "suggests" although two of them have a workaround.

Unless there are major objections, I will try and convince my sponsor
to upload it this week. I know 4.0.3 may be released soon, but that
may be too late for the Debian import freeze for Ubuntu 14.04.

Regards,

Ross
