In my almost 20 years long career as a newsadmin I have often used a shell as the news user for various tasks and in multiple occasions I did not have root access to these servers. Actually on my servers I used to change the news shell from /bin/sh to /bin/bash for convenience... What is the point of news not having a shell by default when experience says that one is needed?
