did this issue happen if you are running in safe mode? Have you also tried to disable partrially plugins? What happen if you backup your prefs.js and let Icedove recreate it while the next start. I know, all settings have to be redone, but I believe the problem is inside your configuration, not inside the Icedove binarys.
