Both dmenu and tabbed are provided as alternative but I guess this patch
is needed and we can simply provide patched slock instead of providing
this as alternative. What do you think?

I've not verified patch but I've no problem in accepting your
patch. OTOH if you are interested you can co-maintain suckless-tools
with me :-). Let me know.

Sure, there is many thing which its hard to convince the upstream so I
silently maintain some patch in Debian, since this feels like needed
feature I will be happy to pick it up.
