The versions of config.guess and config.sub in cronolog are too old to correctly support Debian GNU/k*BSD. A version is needed from this year, which is available in the autotools-dev packages that are in current sarge, and sid.
Whee; I hadn't realized it had become a moving target again. I'll update them with the next upload (which should be shortly).
You can simply copy them manually, but it can also be done automatically using the method described in /usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz
I'm all too familiar with it; I sent too many of these for Nienna. And, as such, my general rule for not building on such systems, is that it is "wishlist" if it never has, or "minor" if it previously did but a change to the system (rather than the package) caused the failure. Severity set accordingly, on the presumption that it did, in fact, build once upon a time.
It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update config.guess and config.sub in their next release.
I could ask, but given that the upstream has not made a release in several years, I doubt it will change much in the immediate future.
