AFAICR that *always* was the case. And it still is. This is because it's all basically all applications of LO using the same mechanism. Do you wish it changed? Then it's wishlist. (I doubt upstream will do it, but..). And if so, that so sure will not be changed in a totally obsolete version (which 3.5.x is) in any case.
