I couldn't reproduce this in a virtual machine: * install squeeze 6.0.9 * install clamav 0.97.8+dfsg-1~squeeze1 * update clamav to 0.98.1+dfsg-1~squeeze1 From which version did you upgrade?
The following was sufficient to work around the problem: cp /usr/share/doc/clamav-base/examples/clamd.conf.sample /usr/share/doc/clamav-base/examples/clamd.conf dpkg --pending --configure
