I've built a local version of silo using the patch and can confirm that it works. I still get the "\", but now the boot message is printed below it. It would be very nice to get this patch applied and uploaded as showing the messages would be a very nice improvement for Debian Installer. If there is no problem with that, I could do an NMU for the package. Cheers, FJP
