No, I have not compiled anything. I use the standard kernel 2.6.14-2 from Debian Sid.

All the ALSA drivers are loaded by discover at boot but the sound card does not show up in /proc/asound/cards. After running alsaconf the file has this content:
loke:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [I82801BAICH2   ]: ICH - Intel 82801BA-ICH2
                     Intel 82801BA-ICH2 with AD1885 at 0x2000, irq 185

The problems came when Debian Sid changed from using hotplug to udev.
