I don't think upstream solved this problem adequately, or ever will. It isn't so bad for me now because my current laptop has a clickpad, and it's easier to perform a 3-finger click than 3-finger tap. Also, as it lacks separate buttons, 2=right click and 3=middle click makes more sense on this machine. I also use a real mouse where possible.
