You are upgrading Mate from Debian over the version from the Mate
upstream repositories. This behavior is inevitable since some files
have been moved between the packages as opposed to Mate upstream or
1.6.0.

We can't really fix this problem, but it anyway affects only people
who were previously using the Mate upstream repositories. Just
run apt-get with the following options:

apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-overwrite" -f install

Then again, run apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade.

Cheers,

Adrian

    I removed upstream from my apt list some time ago...I
guess this was a  leftover.

Thanks for the advice. Appreciate it.

Frank
