Hi,
Without gir1.2-gexiv2-0.10 installed on the machine, gramps presents a
"difficult to understand message" at startup.
There is upstream documentation (as told in the message) here:
https://gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=GEPS_029:_GTK3-GObject_introspection_Conversion#GExiv2_for_Image_metadata
The solution explained for "Ubuntu 14.04 - Trusty Tahr" also works for
Debian, ie installing gir1.2-gexiv2-0.10.

I let you decide if you want to put it as a Depends or a Recommends (as,
strictly speaking, gramps can work without this package)

Vincent
Hi Vincent,
Thanks for reporting this.
I agree the message is difficult to understand. The instructions in the
message probably list the action which is most applicable across all
platforms even though in Debian/Ubuntu, the new gtk3/gir bindings have
been packaged and released. With the switch to gtk3 there were many
changes in dependencies, and I probably should have helped Debian/Ubuntu
users with some more specific information in a NEWS file or something.
It also took me a while to realise that you could click on the "make
this message go away in future" checkbox.
Anyway, the dependencies were all allocated based on the recommendations
in the INSTALL file. But you have spotted an inconsistency. The gexiv
package is for sure optional. I have never used it myself. I don't have
many photos imported into Gramps.
However, if Gramps provides this message at startup for gexiv, then it
is a sign that it is an important addon.
I will move it to "Recommends" for the next release.
Regards,
Ross
