Feel free do to one or the other .. THere have been long discussions about automatically adding all the OTF and type 1 fonts to fontconfig, but it turned out that this is *very* problematic since many fonts are not properly prepared for working within fontconfig/X environment (but work great in TeX!). THus we are not doing anything here..
