Title: Message
Package: libpam-ldap

Version: 178-1sarge1

I am not being able to change my password, stored in an LDAP server, with the command passwd. here is the output of the passwd command:

me@mymachine:~$ passwd
Enter login(LDAP) password:
New password:
Re-enter new password:
LDAP password information update failed: Unknown error

passwd: Permission denied
In the /var/log/auth.log, I get this:

Nov 22 15:13:04 mymachine passwd[23772]: pam_ldap: ldap_starttls_s: Local error
Nov 22 15:13:04 mymachine passwd[23772]: pam_ldap: ldap_modify_s Referral

This error occurs ONLY after updating the package libpam-ldap from http://security.debian.org/ . So I would guess this bug (if it's really a bug) is related to some security update on the package.

I don't know if this would have anything to do with the bug, but my LDAP server runs TLS authentication.

Greetings,

Johnny RAHME
