The attached patch from the Ubuntu package adds aarch64 (64-bit ARMv8) support using the gcc primitives.
I have just uploaded this to debian-ports unreleased.
If there has been no maintainer response when the time comes to push arm64 into debian proper then a NMU will likely follow. If you have any objections please raise them now.
