To be honest the chances my having the time in the near future is pretty slim. I took the route of marking all of gnome-core except gnome-user-share as manually installed and removed gnome-core and avahi-daemon and related packages. I'm working 60+ hour week right now and trying to find time for anything besides things that I absolutely have to do is hard.
