Yes, it's possible but there is a fair bit of work required. Upstream has completely redone the build system, and added some new library dependencies one of which isn't packaged in Debian (qhexedit). I'm hoping to get around to working on this soonish. I'll probably start with uploading a version with the patch for #726504 first and then work on the 3 series.
