in older debian versions it was always possible to switch the default sound card to the E-MU 404 USB via the gnome settings. In testing the device is only listed for input, not for output. Funny enougth: A small gnome extension <https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/212/advanced-volume-mixer/> still enables to switch the device. It would be very nice to have this regression fixed.
