Excuse me, I forgot to add debian/docs file listing NEWS while dropping override_dh_installdocs in debian/rules. This is stylistic change but hello being a textbook example package, I think using debhelper as designed is good idea. If you have some reason not to use dh_autoreconf, the debhelper upstream's choice = autotools-dev should be used to package this one. After all this is a textbook package, the most robust solution to support architectures is desirable. Patching on the autogenerated file seems bad idea.
