Thank you very much for the report and "patch"... about to apply it
first upstream where apparently we also have that issue

But would you be so kind to provide the log line as is (edit only
IP/login) -- we do not even have "login:" but "badlogin:" in our sample
lines and failregex...

alternatively I would invite you to submit a "full blown" PR on
https://github.com/fail2ban/fail2ban so you could get a credit for your
contribution ;)
