As you have figured out correctly the problem is that GS requests QL
to show a 1x1px tray icon which triggers a bug. I've fixed this
yesterday [0] [1], but even with the fix applied, the icon doesn't
show since it's 1x1px big. Most other applications hardcode the icons
size, which is why they still work.

You can install the TopIcons [2] extension as a workaround for now; it
correctly notifies QL of the right size (which is also why I didn't
notice this problem earlier..)
