Thanks for the report.

The reason for this behavior is that '\' and '&' are used by some of
the LaTeX markup functions, like in tables, so I can't just escape
them throughout the entire document.

This is a limitation that I am working to overcome in Muse 3.03, but I
haven't perfected it yet.
