thanks for the report. With 3.12, gnome-session isn’t really usable without gnome-shell (e.g. no way to quit the session). I plan to remove the xmonad-GNOME session in the next xmonad upload. I will also improve the xmonad session by providing support for running .xmonad/xmonad-session-rc in the startup sequence.
