Yes, I'm aware of the issue. Upstream tried to improve the memory consumption for the affected files but mips/mipsel still seems to have problems. I already asked on debian-mips for help but haven't got a reply so far. https://lists.debian.org/debian-mips/2014/08/msg00009.html If nobody has a better idea, I intend to request the removal of FreeOrion from these architectures.
